This language exchange app is generating $13.2M in ARR

They’ve ran a network of 10+ TikTok accounts to 176.8M views:

Hello Talk is a language app where you learn by chatting with native speakers around the world (released in 2012)

They have 4 accounts per language (english, korean, spanish, japanese)

One is the “official” and the rest are random, smaller accounts:

tt@hellotalk_english => faceful recording of creator + on-screen text/emojis

This video got 13.6M views, 786K likes, 1.5K comments & 205K bookmarks:

Similar to tt@hellotalk_spanish, but on this account all creators are (attractive) females

Format is similar, but they make some more “wrong” pronunciation videos, like this: => 4M views // 401K likes // 3.7K comments // 11.8K bookmarks

Interestingly, their Asian accounts follow a different format

tt@hellotalk_japanese’s most viral video is 100% faceless, blue background + text overlay

Dead simple, yet => 2.7M views // 137K likes // 1K comments // 55K bookmarks:

Another format that went viral on 2 accounts is recording of supermarket + “Let’s test your korean / spanish”

Korean => 1.3M views // 213K likes // 1.2K comments // 16K bookmarks

Spanish => 2.2M views // 322K likes // 4K comments // 20K bookmarks

Besides some influencer partnerships,

They got this video w/ tt@takashiifromjapan (1M followers) => he interviews a couple on the street and they say they met on Hello Talk

Video reached 2.3M views and over 1K comments of people interested in downloading the app to meet their international significant other:

No doubt we’ll start seeing this texting/chat format for more apps soon but with AI instead

Talkpal already does something like this but they’re not viral on TikTok nor Reels (still making ~$100K MRR)
